I personally struggled with being over weight for as long as I can remember…. yo-yo diets, inactive lifestyle, poor eating habits, low self esteem, and more which contributed to my weight gain of over 100 pounds. Taking daily blood pressure medication, diabetes knocking at my door, and seeing a cardiologist in my 40’s, I woke up one day and asked myself…. How did I get here?? I knew I had to make a lifestyle change in order for me to gain control of my life physically, medically, and psychologically. I knew I had to fight to stay healthy for my family. As a therapist for over 15 years, I helped countless men and women overcome their own struggles, and now it was time to work on myself. I surrounded myself with supportive individuals who had the same fitness goals, worked with a fitness coach, and utilized a variety of therapeutic techniques to help me travel the journey to a new me. As a result of those changes, I lost 125 pounds!
Our journey in weight loss has many barriers and successes, but most importantly our journey is self rewarding. I do things today that I once thought were out of my reach such as distance running and spartan competitions to name a few. I also enjoy riding bikes, walk/run intervals, weight lifting, swimming and spending quality time with my family and friends. I constantly remind myself on why I choose to live a healthy lifestyle.
As a mental health professional, my therapeutic approach comes from over 15 years of experience working with individuals battling with issues such as: depression, anxiety, obesity, substance abuse, victims of domestic violence, suicidal ideation, bereavement, grief, hospice, palliative care, and adjusting to medical issues (such as ESRD, diabetes, and hypertension).
